Carolyn Lou Stover, 87, of Binger, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Binger Nursing Home. She was born on March 23, 1937, in Albert-Oney, Oklahoma, to Emory Wesley and Bonnie Pearl (Henry) Compton. She attended first and second grade at Albert Oney Schools and moved to Binger Schools in her third grade. Carolyn graduated from Binger High School and went on to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, becoming part of the university’s first graduating class in 1957. She married Jerry Stover on June 11, 1960, in Binger, Oklahoma. Carolyn began her teaching career in South Haven, Kansas, while Jerry was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and later continued teaching in San Antonio.  While Jerry served in Korea, Carolyn moved back to Binger, where she taught music in Mustang. When Jerry returned, he taught band in Minco for a year before starting the band program in Mustang in 1968. In pursuit of further education, they moved to New Mexico, where Carolyn earned her master’s degree in special education in 1970. They briefly returned to Mustang before moving to Plano, Texas, in 1971. Carolyn taught vocal music and special education in Plano until her retirement in 1996. In 1997, she and Jerry moved to Hinton, where she continued her passion for teaching special education at Hinton Public Schools.  Carolyn was dedicated to her students and was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Bowman Middle School in Plano. She was a member of numerous professional and community organizations, including the Binger Rotary Club, Sickles Quilting Club, National Education Association, Texas Education Association, Plano Education Association, American Association of University Women, OSU Alumni Association, Council for Exceptional Children, and the New Mexico Association for Special Needs Children. She was also a member of Briarwood United Methodist Church.  Beyond teaching, Carolyn found joy in quilting, sewing, cheering for OSU ball games, and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carolyn’s legacy of love, education, and dedication to her family and students will be remembered by all who knew her.


She is survived by her husband, Jerry Stover of Binger; her son, Bart Stover, and his wife, Rebecca, of Hinton; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Stover of Binger; her grandchildren, Alicia Jackson and husband Kent of Anadarko, Ry Stover of Binger, Morgan Stover of Denton, Texas, and Sage Stover of Nashville, Tennessee; and her great-grandchildren, Kai Stover, Emory Stover, Mikah Stover, and Kreed Jackson. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Odie Tackett of Binger, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Bonnie Compton; her son, Wes Stover; and her aunts, Charlene Saunders and Juanita Roan, along with Juanita’s husband, O.J.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Binger High School Auditorium, with Reverend Lynn Bellamy officiating. Burial will follow at Albert-Oney Cemetery.
